The William Charter, the oldest item in the collection, is on public display between January 7 and April 27 at the Guildhall Art Gallery. The parchment dates back to 1067 and is on display to mark the 950th anniversary of the City of London's archives.
The Charter was given to the City by William the Conqueror and the document, just six inches wide and one inch high is written in Old English. It confirmed the legal rights of Londoners following the Norman conquest.
In addition in February, a photography exhibition called ‘The Londoners,’ features prints and photographs of working people over the last 500 years. Keep an eye out for more events in 2017 from our Libraries and Culture offering!
