Tonight at the Judges Dinner the Lord Mayor, talked of the potential role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the judicial system, calling for robust international standards to ensure ethical AI development.
Speaking alongside the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood MP and the Lady Chief Justice, The Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill. A first! As this is first time both the Chancellor and Chief Justice are women.
The Lady Chief Justice (a former technology and construction judge) also echoed the potential of technology for our future courts and justice system.
On ethical AI and international standards the Lord Mayor was keen to promote the Ethical AI Initiative and international standard - specifically ISO 42001, the AI management system.
He also reminded us of the Walbrook AI Accord - leading to 38 countries agreeing to use ISO 42001 for regulation, as well as the formation of the AI Quality Infrastructure group.
In my view AI technology could bring great benefits provided humans remain in the loop and thoughtful on how they use it!
