Today I visited various SMEs in the City and joined the Finance committee meeting.
According to the Federation of Small businesses there were 5.6 million small businesses at the start of 2023. Compared with the previous year, the private sector business population increased by 0.8% (46,000 businesses).
SMEs account for three-fifths of the employment and around half of turnover in the UK private sector.
I’m therefore delighted to be part of a task force in the City to look at how we can better help SMEs that matter so much to growth and jobs.
It was also a good day because it was sunny and I had time in Tower Ward in the City of London
