This morning we welcomed the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs of London to tour Smithfield market and see the newly refurbished butchers hall. The Chairman of the tenant association treated us to a great tour and thoughtful words on the year for the market. From extinction rebellion to cross rail’s delay, the market has faced challenges. Brexit is a concern but also an opportunity said the chairman, it was welcome to hear his views on the changes in the global meat trade and how the UK market is adapting. He also had kind words of thanks for the local MP, Mark Field, who has announced he will not stand again, and we shall miss his service and support. Overall his view for the future was uplifting, and positive, Smithfield will continue to adapt and thrive.
