Very sadly our Tower Ward Alderman Sir Paul Judge died on May 22nd, and with him we lost one of the most colourful and interesting members of the Corporation of London.
I'm sure he would have liked the kind obituaries of him since, particularly those that remember him as both a philanthropist and an entrepreneur. The latter was particularly important to Sir Paul who was a great champion of entrepreneurs. He was a significant contributor to the creation of The Guild of Entrepreneurs helping them successfully petitioned for Guild status in 2014. Its motto is Dare, Create, Succeed - words Sir Paul very much believed in.
I was lucky to first meet him in 2004 when he hosted charitable evenings in his home. From that time onward I saw first hand how he always showed people great warmth. I came to know him better after I was elected in Tower Ward, and enjoyed his entertaining talks at our receptions on the history of our ward and City which he clearly loved.
Sir Paul enjoyed a remarkable career in the food industry, leading the management buy out that formed Premier Brands. He also served as director general of the Conservative Party organisation from 1992 to 1995 and his generous donations to Cambridge University founded its business school: Judge Business School.
We shall miss him, I hope his family take pride in the fondness in which he was held by those who knew him.
