It was a pleasure to attend the Regulatory Affairs Reception this evening which hosted representatives from European Embassies, the City, Businesses and Trade Bodies. There were excellent speeches from Jeremy Browne the City's Special Representative to Europe, Catherine McGuinness the Policy Chairman, and Carolyn Fairbairn the Director General of the CBI.
The unifying comments were that the City of London has always evolved, and it was not at a peak in June 2016, new products and new jobs will continue to be created, just as older trading patterns will disappear. Importantly, Jeremy considered that an acceptable deal with the EU is entirely possible and likely for the UK. He believes the sensible negotiations will commence in the autumn and it was heartening to hear his positive views. Let us hope we soon see the UK and the EU finding a positive vision of their mutual future post Brexit.
