‘Apprenticeships in the City’. The programme supports small and medium sized asset management and banking firms to take on apprentices and utilize their Apprenticeship Levy payments, as part of our commitment to building the skills the City needs and connecting the City's opportunities with London's diverse talent.
Places on this free programme are still available, and we would welcome your support in promoting this initiative to your business constituents in the asset management and banking sectors. Applications are open until 17 August.
The programme responds to the Government’s new Apprenticeship Levy. From May 2017, firms with an annual payroll bill of over £3m are required to pay 0.5% of the pay bill into an 'apprenticeships pot,' which employers can then use to train apprentices in their own organisation.
Working in partnership with City HR Association, Investment 2020, the National Skills Academy for Financial Services and the Tech Partnership, the City Corporation has designed a FREE programme to help overcome some of the barriers faced by smaller levy payers. The programme will test an approach to co-commissioning training provision and is being led by the Economic Development Office, in partnership with the Department for Community and Children’s Services.

About the apprenticeship pilot programme:
Through a programme of free support and introductions to training providers, the Corporation will support smaller apprenticeship levy payers (with for example 1 or 2 apprenticeship opportunities) to create apprenticeships at level 3 and 4 (post A-Level), in 9 priority areas:
- Senior Financial Services Customer Advisor
- Financial Services Administrator
- Investment Operations Technician
- Investment Operations Specialist
- Compliance / Risk Officer
- Business And Administration
- Cyber Security Technologist
- Cyber Intrusion Analyst
- Infrastructure Technician
By working together our cohort of businesses will help shape and influence apprenticeship training provision in order to meet business needs, as well as benefiting from both tailored support and the experiences of others in the network.
What will the programme offer:
Through a series of free autumn workshops, commencing in September, the programme will offer support focused around three key areas:
Identifying job roles and training provision - expert advice and support in analysing your job roles, matching roles with apprenticeship standards, and selecting training providers and end point assessors
Getting apprenticeship ready - securing internal buy-in and understanding the processes and systems involved in apprenticeships
Candidate recruitment and managing apprentices - recruiting and supporting your apprentice (be they existing employees or new recruits) and line managers
