Emergency Gas Works: Gracechurch Street
Cadent are undertaking emergency works in Gracechurch Street to repair a major gas leak. To facilitate the works a north bound closure of Gracechurch Street is required for between 2 – 4 weeks. To help manage the closure of Gracechurch Street, TfL are also closing north bound London Bridge (the approach to the worksite) except for buses, taxis and cyclists. Buses and cyclists can proceed via Bank with taxis via Cannon Street west bound. TfL are diverting all other displaced northbound traffic via Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge (please note there are weight restrictions on Tower Bridge). Whilst the gas works are on the TfL road network, the City’s network will also be affected and congestion is expected.
To help drivers navigate through City streets whilst these works are in progress there will be a partial reopening of Bank Junction eastbound from Queen Victoria Streetfrom Monday 26 February 2018. All other restrictions at Bank will remain in place between normal hours of 0700 and 1900 Monday to Friday. There will be signage in place to direct traffic as appropriate and measures have been put in place to help mitigate any safety risks that might result from introducing more traffic into Bank. The reopening of Queen Victoria Street to allow east bound traffic through Bank Junction is a temporary measure only. The experimental Bank on Safety Scheme will resume on completion of these works.
Safety continues to be a number one priority and all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using Bank Junction are asked to take extra care, and for drivers to avoid the area if at all possible.
Updates on progress with the emergency gas works will be provided in future bulletins and via social media.
