Today I have been accompanying the Lord Mayor on his trade mission to Toronto and Canada. The depth of support for enhanced Anglo-Canadian trade is very encouraging. It was fascinating to hear from Frank Mckenna the Deputy Chairman of TD Bank talks of the challenges with NAFTA and a need to reassess Canadian reliance on the US market, alongside the concerns and opportunities for the UK post Brexit. Frank is a past Canadian ambassador to the US and premier of New Brunswick, and so his understanding of Government and business was a welcome bridge between the diplomatic and business issues under discussion. Our meeting concluded that both the UK and Canada need to be more outwardly global and our our friendship can be a key part of our mutual global realignment.
