2020 is well underway with the advent of the London Government dinner. The Mayor of Greater London, the Lord Mayor of London and civic leaders from across the metropolis gathered to hear the annual speeches of the leader of London councils and our Mayors.
Sadiq Khan urged Labour and the Conservatives to ditch their anti-London agenda in his speech, and everyone spoke of the capital’s importance to the wider economy and country.
London offers culture and prosperity but also needs investment and recognition we have deprived communities in need of our help. It was interesting to hear how people want to tackle such issues. A thought provoking evening and a welcome opportunity to talk to all parts of the metropolis.
I personally enjoyed the chance to talk to the leaders of Barking and Dagenham about the city’s market project, and to discuss my hopes for the recognition of volunteers supporting grass roots sport across the capital.
