City Streets Update: Transportation response to support COVID-19 Recovery
Temporary changes to enable social distancing and safe walking and cycling are being delivered across the Square Mile in phases.
Phase 1 - The first phase of temporary changes to City streets in response to Covid-19 will be installed on street from tomorrow, Thursday 4 June. It will take approximately two weeks to complete installation.
The detail of the changes to individual streets is available here.
Changes will be delivered on Thursday 4 June to:
- Lombard Street (including Nicholas Lane)
- St Mary Axe
- Coleman Street (including Kings Arm Yard)
- Poultry
Changes will be delivered from Monday 8 June to:
- Cannon Street
- Threadneedle Street
- Old Broad Street
- Leadenhall Street
The above streets have been selected for the first phase of change on the basis of pedestrian numbers, pavement widths, cycling demand and connections to destinations, retail and transport hubs.
Phase 2 - On Tuesday 2 June the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee discussed proposals for the next phase of temporary changes to City streets in response to Covid-19 and to allow for social distancing.

The proposals will also be submitted to the Projects Sub-Committee under delegation and to the Planning and Resources Committee on the 11 June for a final decision. The detail of the proposed changes to individual streets is available here.
