Today was of course St. George’s day recognising England’s patron saint. It was also a day where the licensing committee, that I chair, took a close look at policing and the licensed venues, with nearly a 1,000 venues in the square mile the level of information we monitor and the lack of trouble in our city venues shows the square mile is the perfect place to be. Yet despite these two important things occurring today it was not the highlight of the day.
This evening was a networking and promotional event of the economic and other ties between London and the USA. In December we opened our offices in New York and Washington, to ensure we help “build on the already close relationship between the two largest financial service centres in the world” and tonight we strengthened it further with a reception for Anglo-American business and diplomats. We are all fortunate to have a body like the City of London Corporation which does so much to promote our city and build bridges, with it comes opportunity for Londoners!
