The Queen's dedication to the Commonwealth and conservation were honoured this week when we dedicated our ancient woodland.
Our Lord Mayor Jeffrey Mountevans thanked the royal family for their unswerving commitment as he announced that Epping Forest, on the border of London and Essex, would join The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) initiative.
The QCC is designed to create a network of forest conservation initiatives across the 53 Commonwealth nations, in a bid to protect plants and trees. The Queen hopes it will create a coherent and vibrant network of forest that, individually and collectively, demonstrates the capacity of the Commonwealth to act together. It already includes thousands of hectares of land in Australia, Canada, India, Zambia and Malaysia. Now Epping Forest, London’s largest green space with more than one million trees, is part of the initiative.
